Eating establishments encouraged to enter for 2011 Highlands & Islands Food & Drink Award

Restaurants, cafes and other eating establishments throughout the Highlands and Islands are invited to enter for the prestigious Highlands & Islands Restaurant of the Year Award.

One of the 11 categories being awarded at the 2011 Highlands & Islands Food & Drink Awards, the Highlands & Islands Restaurant of the Year Award recognises excellence in this particular sector of the industry. This award is given to the restaurant or eating establishment which can demonstrate the most innovative and consistent use of produce from food or drink suppliers in the Highlands and Islands, great tasting food and outstanding service levels. Entry is open to all eating establishments in the Highlands and Islands accessible to the general public.

Submit an entry for your establishment, by visiting http://www.hifoodanddrinkawards.com and providing your contact details together with sample menus and a list of local suppliers. Entries are open now until 31 July 2011.

Entrants are reminded that the deadline for all Award categories has been extended until Sunday 24 July. The organisers decided on the extension after feedback from a number of companies suggested that an already busy time of year had been more hectic than usual given the major events taking place in the area recently.

Quintin Stevens, chairman of the Highlands & Islands Food & Drink Awards, said: “Using the excellent produce available throughout the area, restaurants in the Highlands & Islands offer some of the best cuisine in the world. The Highlands & Islands Restaurant of the Year Award recognises the exceptional standards achieved by many establishments. It also acknowledges the huge contribution everyone involved with each business makes to the final product.”

Celebrating excellence and achievement in the food and drink industry, the Awards are organised by the Highlands & Islands Food & Drink Forum, and supported by Highlands and Islands Enterprise.

Entries are invited for categories recognising healthier food and drink, innovation, new products, new businesses, and businesses working in collaboration with each other. The best entries shortlisted for each Award category will be announced at the beginning of September. The Awards will be presented to the winners at a spectacular dinner showcasing delicious, top-quality food and drink from the region taking place at the Drumossie Hotel, Inverness, on Friday 21 October 2011.
